Watch the swerve out

I’ve noticed more and more occasions in which an impatient driver swerves out over double yellow lines to swing around another driver making a turn. As a motorcyclist it can be fairly terrifying seeing a car swerve into your path, even if it’s some distance away. When faced with a line of traffic coming toward me I’ll often make the decision to choose the right third of my lane to travel in. That gives me at least a buffer area for bad drivers that choose to swing out into my lane out of impatience.

As a motorcyclist, if you see traffic coming toward you and one of them turns right you should be aware that the driver behind that person may swing out to get around them which may put them directly in your path. It’s bad driving and poor decision making to save a few seconds but I see it happen all the time and it’s worth pointing out to others.

Be safe.
