Close (or open) the gap

An important consideration in commuting, or in riding in general, is being mindful of the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. If you leave too much space you could encourage an approaching driver turning left to try and turn in front of you. Motorists don’t realize that at 6o miles per hour it takes around 135 feet to stop a motorcycle. That could spell disaster if you’ve given too much cushion to the car in front of you. However, if you leave too little space you could be causing a similar problem in the event the vehicle in front of you needs to stop suddenly. Too little space, you’re in trouble; too much space and you create the possibility of a panic stop. Maintaining adequate buffer distance is an important safety consideration while riding.

Be safe.
