Motorcycle movie gifts…

If you have a motorcyclist and movie lover on your shopping list and need a last minute gift here are a few of my favorite motorcycle films:

A movie that exudes affection and goodwill, The World’s Fastest Indian is an unabashed mash note to a lovely character from New Zealand’s recent past. Burt Munro, played by Anthony Hopkins, is a cantankerous Kiwi with an obsession: he’s been tinkering with his 1920s-era Indian brand motorcycle for years, pushing it to ever-faster speeds. It’s the 1960s, and Burt has the utterly mad idea of taking the bike to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, site of world records for speed racing. The movie takes a while to get to the journey–and then the journey takes a while–but the genial atmosphere prevails.

Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman return for another unforgettable adventure this time riding the Long Way Down. Facing a brand new set of challenges the intrepid pair discover spectacular but unforgiving terrain, rich cultures and unforgettable local characters. They travel From John O Groats to Cape Town descending through Western Europe and Africa before arriving at the southern most tip of the continent. On their incredible journey their endurance, biking skills and friendship are tested to the limit.

2 men, 4 wheels and 20,000 miles. Long Way Round is truly the adventure of a lifetime. Bonded by a unique friendship and love of motorbikes, Long Way Round documents the adventures of Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman on their extraordinary journey around the world. From London to New York via Europe, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Siberia, the U.S.A. and Canada, this two-disc set contains the entire TV series to Long Way Round as well as a number of extras including unseen and extended footage and exclusive interview with Ewan and Charley.

From the creators of Step Into Liquid comes this absolutely exhilarating film about the most notorious and dangerous race in the world: the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. Showcasing Mario Andretti, Robby Gordon, Johnny Campbell and J.N. Roberts, and packed with awesome helicopter footage, in-your-face POV shots and stories of raw courage, Dust to Glory follows a wild assortment of motorcycles, dune buggies, ATV quads and tricked-out trucks in a 32-hour dash across 1,000 miles of unforgiving terrain and delivers such pulse-pounding thrills that you feel like you’ve been there .
