Defending champion Carlos Checa (Ducati) suffered a low side and crashed out in Race 1 opening the door for Max Biaggi (Aprilia) to grab the first win of the season in Word Superbike at Phillip Island, Australia over the weekend. Checa recovered to win race 2 and Biaggi made a miraculous recovery to grab 2nd and the overall points lead after week 1 of the Superbike series. Checa is 4th in points after round 1. Next round is Imola, Italy, April 1st. Standings after round 1.
