My V-Strom

My ride of choice is a Suzuki V-Strom (DL650), purchased new in 2005. I believe I’m at 64,000 miles+ at this point. The V-Strom seems the perfect bike for me. Contrary to what  a lot of people think it’s a “standard” sport-tourer (not a sport bike). It’s tall enough to inspire confidence when commuting and has a 5.5 gallon gas tank that gives me nearly 300 miles of range for touring. The fuel injected 650cc engine sips gas and still has plenty of power for 2-up riding. The hand guards and tall windscreen are excellent for cold weather riding.

The Bike: Bridgestone Battle Wing tires | Stebel Airhorn | Garmin Quest2 GPS on a ram mount | Givi Engine guards | Givi E-21 sidecases | Hepco and Becker topbox with backrest for my girl | Madstad adjustable windshield mount | Throttle rocker | ATV handlebars | Powerlet 12v outlet | SaddleSol Seat Protector

Communications: Scala Rider Teamset Pro setup for rider to passenger communication and for a connection to a Bluetooth Android smart phone stowed in my tank bag. The Scala also allows a direct connection to a non-Bluetooth MP3 player and has included FM radio with 5 presets.

Jacket: I’m partial to Rev’it jackets

(I have 2, the Air for really hot weather and another for the other 3 seasons)

Helmets: Dusty touring (or in the rain): AFX FX-37 Dualsport and for everyday riding a KBC FFR modular

Winter: Gerbing heated jacket liner and glovesBoots: Alpinestars Ridge Waterproof

Pants: Joe Rocket Ballistic 7 (although I’m not crazy about the new version, I wore my 5.0’s until they practically fell off – why they messed with a good thing is beyond me).
