Meetup Group

Back in 2010 I started “Southeast Pennsylvania Adventure Motorcycle Touring“, a group hosted on Meetup.com. In a year we’ve added nearly 100 members and counting. Nearly every type of bike you can mention is represented in our group and the members are an eclectic mix of personalities. We have retired law enforcement, teachers, clinical researchers, engineers, pilots, farmers, people from every walk of life. One of things I find most intriguing about motorcycling is meeting other people for whom it’s a life affirming endeavor and not just a hobby. Motorcycling, more than anything else I’ve ever been involved with, seems to instantly bond people and allow them to open up faster than they would otherwise.

I’m proud of having strayed from my comfort zone to create this group. I’m finding that while leading doesn’t necessarily come naturally to me, that doing the work of making sure people are safe and have fun seems to. I ask for input and ideas, listen when others want to lead. I sort of let the group be what it decides to be and so far that’s worked rather well. I get good feedback which, along with riding with nice people, is all the reward I need.

If I’m the brains (and I use that term loosely), then Cori is the heart. She has a wonderful knack for putting people at ease with her kind heart and warm smile. We work well together and outings with this group are proof of that. Hopefully our group will continue to grow. Come check us out, I guarantee you’ll enjoy yourself.

    Hi Bud,

My name is Peter Olt and I have been riding bikes for 30 years. I would like to ask your opinion about a motorcycle loud horn system I just launched.

I have it online at a website called “KickStarter” – it’s an online invention promotion and funding site. We have already had a lot of enthusiastic feedback from people backing us in KickStarter and we would now like to invite industry bloggers such as yourself to give your opinion.

If you have time to take a look, I would appreciate it – the link has a video where you can see what it does in a couple of minutes: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/153591688/ban

    Thanks,

    Peter OIt
