Gear Up for Winter Riding

Best Motorcycle Apparel for Winter Biking

Just because the temperature has dropped doesn’t mean you need to park your motorcycle in the garage until next spring. As long as you have the right clothing you can go on rides throughout the fall and winter months. You wouldn’t ride your bike without ensuring that it is properly prepared, so do the same with your apparel to make sure you are also prepared for anything.

The Outer Layer

When riding in cold temperatures, you need a good outer shell to protect yourself from the weather. An Alpinestars riding jacket is a good place to start, as well as a waterproof option that will keep you dry and warm. Choosing a product with ventilation in all the right places will allow you to cool down if necessary without letting water in.

The Insulation

What you wear under your outer shell can really help with winter warmth. While all season motorcycle jackets may have a fleece lining that can certainly work, an additional base layer designed for low temperatures is your best bet. In some cases, you may even want to invest in heated gear to keep your core revved up and circulating blood to the rest of your body.

The Accessories

Even if your body is warm, having cold extremities can make your winter riding miserable. You’ll want to get gloves, socks, and a face mask to keep in the heat. If you live somewhere that sees extreme lows, you may even need to try glove liners for an added layer of protection. Wool is the ideal material for socks, but you can use heated insoles for more warmth for your toes.
