A friend on LinkedIn brought to my attention that there is controversy brewing in Florida over the way ABATE of Florida is spending taxpayer funds. ABATE (A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments or American Bikers Aiming Towards Education) of Florida receives $250,000 annually from the state and also collects fees from memberships. A recent audit of ABATES books disclosed some odd purchases (eyeglass repair kits, chapstick and leather calendars for instance) which seem to have little to do with safety which is what state appropriated funds are to be used for. The audit led to the amusing and informative rant below. It sure seems as though ABATE of Florida is using taxpayer money to pay for their own advertising, which would be improper use of funds.
